Naast de thermische prestatie en de verschillende labels die het defini\u00ebren, speelt isolatie een fundamentele rol in het ontwerp en de vorm van gebouwen. De aard en de oorsprong, de dikte en de secundaire eigenschappen, het ecosysteem van isolatie worden in overweging genomen en Barrault Pressaco wil dus verder gaan dan enkel de isolerende waarde. Het onderzoek omvat 2 luiken. Het eerste richt zich op de praktijk. Via interviews, opzoekingswerk en onderzoeken worden de beschikbare isolatiematerialen en normen van toepassing in Belgi\u00eb in kaart gebracht. Dit resulteert in een inventaris van biobased materialen die vandaag de dag als isolatie gebruikt kunnen worden, zoals houtwol, hennep, stro, ruwe aarde. De relatie tussen plaats en gebouw, tussen architectuur en grondstof en dus de oorsprong van materialen wordt opnieuw belangrijk door de energie die nodig is voor transport en transformatie in rekening te brengen. Het tweede deel is erop gericht om de architectuurwereld bewust te maken van die parameters.
