The transformation of the Beco dock is entering a new phase! Following the new Park along the Quai des Matériaux and Kanal on the other side, Beliris is initiating a study on the lowering of the quay at Quai des Péniches. Simultaneously, the possibility of establishing an outdoor swimming pool in the Beco dock will also be explored. There is a critical lack of open-air bathing facilities in Brussels, therefore this study is a good step towards a solution. The proximity of these two projects, their potential synergies, and the complexity of the works to be carried out make it necessary to jointly assess their feasibility.
The assignment will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the technical, programmatic, and financial feasibility of both the quay lowering and the pool installation will be examined, with various scenarios developed. Based on the results of this first phase, a master plan will be created in the second phase. This plan will pay particular attention to the urban and landscape qualities, inclusivity, and sustainability of the project, along with the proposed participatory process.
Beliris is looking for experienced partners in public space design (architect, urban planner, or landscape architect), an engineer specialized in port infrastructure, an engineer specialized in swimming pools, an ecologist, and an expert in citizen participation.
Interested teams are invited to submit a bid no later than 3.12.2024 at 11 AM. The bid consists of presenting a methodology and does not require to draw up a spatial proposition.
