The design and realisation of a reading space on the second floor of Muntpunt is the subject of this call for interest. Additional reading spaces will also be created on levels +3 and +4 of the library. This intervention aims to address the current shortage of high-quality reading spaces within Muntpunt.
A central element of the project is the creation of a lively and welcoming reading space of approximately 54 m² on the second floor, conceived as a place for encounters and community building. The aim is to create a vibrant physical space where visitors feel welcome to stay, read, and spend time. The space will also make the collaboration with communities visible: collections are created together and the results of activities are presented together. It will also feature an inspiring community wall, including visitor reviews as well as reading tips shared by readers and librarians. The space will offer opportunities for small-scale reading activities and encourage spontaneous encounters, creating the conditions for new collaborations to emerge and grow.
Adjacent to this central space is an office of approximately 30 m², which will become available and will be converted into an activity room. The current office atmosphere will be transformed into a welcoming space equipped with tables and chairs and an inspiring interior design. Where possible, particular attention will be paid to strengthening the connection with the library and bringing in more natural daylight. The activity space will be arranged flexibly, with the possibility of acoustically closing off the space at certain times.
In the past, Muntpunt has collaborated with several architects for transformations to the building. B-architecten carried out the complete renovation of the building. Subsequent interventions were r ealized by Doorzon interieurarchitecten, OUEST architecten and Ostudüo. For this assignment, a new and independent perspective is deliberately sought, rather than awarding an additional assignment to offices previously involved in the building’s transformation. Nevertheless, the project should build upon the existing situation and the qualities already present in the building.
As contracting authority, the administration of Muntpunt is not subject to the bilingualism of the procedure. Applicants are therefore requested to prepare their documents in Dutch.
The minimum competencies required for this assignment consist of training in architecture or interior architecture, or demonstrable professional experience proving that the necessary expertise is present to successfully carry out this assignment.
