LABEL BMA LABEL #1 – Herbronnen/Ressources

A SOURCE IN THE 'PACIFIC'

Did you know that there is a spring still active under the “Pacific” building, opposite the church in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode? And that there are around 200 other similar springs in the Brussels region? Unfortunately, in most cases, this spring water flows directly into the sewers, without being used to its full potential.

We invite you to discover the LABEL BMA LABEL project “herbronnen.ressources”, an inspiring initiative that will temporarily transform the Place Saint-Josse over the weekend of 7-8 October 2023. Over these two days, a natural water source will be brought to the surface to create a unique meeting space.

The intervention within the framework of BMA LABEL consists of temporarily bringing springwater back to the surface in the heart of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, the most densely populated municipality in the country. For one weekend, the springwater will not flow directly into the sewers, but will be used to create a meeting space on Place Saint-Josse, in the form of a spring pond with seating areas around it.

Kristiaan Borret, bouwmeester maître architecte: “There were some real discoveries made for the first edition of the Label BMA, such as this project concerning springs in Brussels. In a city increasingly grappling with heat, we should be able to do something better with that water than letting it flow into the sewers.”
