WHAT KIND OF DEVELOPMENT FOR THE HALLE DELHAIZE AT BRUSSELS-WEST STATION?

FEASIBILITY STUDY

Brussels-West Station is a vast wasteland of 13 hectares, stretching for almost a kilometre. This former goods station forms a junction between two parts of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean: the East, which is heavily urbanised and has old building stock, and the West, which is the result of more recent development. Crossed by the railway, this wasteland offers exceptional development potential defined within the framework of a territorial strategy supported by a PAD (Plan d’Aménagement Directeur).
The site occupied by the former Halle Delhaize, a long and low two-bay building, is a reminder of the district’s industrial history. It is owned by SNCB and is currently used as a warehouse. The strategic part of the PAD wants to restore the hall, but the technical audit strongly questions the feasibility because of the poor state of the building.

As such, a definition and feasibility study is launched for the development of the area based on two scenarios, one of which is a water park.
