LES JARDINS D’ÉLISE

housing and a public amenity

As part of the Sustainable Neighborhood Contract Petite Suisse, the municipality of Ixelles is launching a competition to redesign and renovate two single-family houses located on either side of the entrance to the school site “Les Jardins d’Élise.” The goal is to strengthen the presence of educational institutions in the public space while addressing the neighborhood’s needs for housing and infrastructure.

The project includes the renovation of the existing houses to create various types of housing, as well as a public amenity for the activities of a youth center. It also involves enhancing the entrance to the school site, which is currently not easily identifiable, and redeveloping the area of the school to reinforce the visibility of educational sites in the public space. The intervention must clarify the entrance of the school and ensure a high-quality, safe, and comfortable pathway for users while promoting connections between different hubs in the neighborhood.

The municipality of Ixelles aims to design the project according to the principles of “Climate Responsive Design,” optimizing the environmental energy potential while meeting GRO standards in terms of sustainability and energy performance.

To carry out this project, the contracting authority is looking for a multidisciplinary team with expertise in architecture, public space design, structural engineering, special techniques, and energy performance (PEB).
