CITYZEN

The Centre Monnaie is located in the heart of Brussels, opposite the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie. This strategically located building is being transformed into a mixed project, combining offices, housing and a hotel. Led by developers Immobel and Whitewood, this transformation will redefine this iconic building and give it a new role in the city’s skyline.

There are several challenges in this major project. Indeed, it is one of the most popular places in the city: a stone’s throw from Place de Brouckère and the Rue Neuve and next to a major public transport hub. In addition, the building is visible from different angles, so its adaptation requires an excellent understanding of the context. Finally, culture, shopping, work, leisure, travel and life meet every day in this place. By (re)developing the impressive building, a greater dialogue will have to be created between the tower and the surrounding area, making both more attractive.

This mission concerns the largest part of the building. Indeed, most of the underground car park and the shopping centre on several levels have other ownerschip. The design mission proposed here concerns only the rest of the base and the entire tower. The program is diverse and complex. The challenge is therefore to position each part of the programme in such a way that they create their own intrinsic qualities, while at the same time building a real urban environment together.

In order to carry out this ambitious project, Immobel and Whitewood are looking for one designer to strengthen the implementation team already set up by the promoter. The proposed project must be coherent and offer real added value for the city of Brussels and its dynamic context.
