MOVY CLUB

Restoration- extension

As one of the last cinemas in the Brussels district, the Movy Club has entirely preserved its human dimension and intimate nature. Built in the 1930s in Art Deco style, then aligned with the tastes of the 1950s, it bears witness to the golden age of cinema, and it has been classified to protect a section of the building: the theatre, the projection room and the foyer. Today, the Brussels-Capital Region is keen to revive this symbolic location in Forest. It has acquired the building, plus some of the neighbouring plots, in order to restore the cinema, bring it up to standard and use it to develop cultural facilities for the exploration of audio-visual language, as part of CRU4 (Urban Renovation Contract n°4).

Therefore, as project owner, the Brussels Regional Public Service (SPRB) – Facilities Management is looking for a multi-disciplinary team with skills in architecture, conservation and restauration of immovable cultural heritage, stability engineering, special techniques engineering, acoustics, PEB, and health and safety coordination.

On the one hand, it concerns planning rigorous restauration and showcasing the heritage elements for preservation, and on the other hand, the practical and spatial organisation of a socio-cultural team to whom it will be necessary to impart an identity and visibility in the public domain. Since the project will be largely developed within a densely built-up area, one of the challenges will be to add qualitative value to the neighbourhood.

The contract comprises a fixed part and two conditional parts.
