CRU 6 – Autour de Simonis

WHICH SOCIO-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AT SIMONIS?

The empty space formed by two adjacent plots facing the Place Eugène Simonis has remained unchanged since the end of the 20th century. This vacant area is strategically located at the crossroads of two major infrastructure axes and is highly accessible by public transportation.

Integrated within the perimeter of the CRU 6 “Autour de Simonis”, this space presents the municipality of Koekelberg with an opportunity to develop a real meeting place, especially for the youth. Indeed, there is currently a lack of a program of socio-cultural spaces to bring a metropolitan dimension to this part of the city and this square, in order to make them more than just a passing point.

As a first step, the Koekelberg Municipality is now launching a study to define the program for the construction of this socio-cultural center. The objective of this study is to explore all the potential of the future building with the aim of creating a project that is spatially, socially and sustainably integrated into the region, the municipality and the neighbourhood. The goal of this programmatic study is to prepare the ground for the architectural study to come.
