Soft Power Sauvage

Exhibition in Brussels

Last year, the exhibition “Soft Power: The Brussels Way of Making the City”, developed and presented at S AM – the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel, explored how Brussels shapes its city. Curated by Roxane Le Grelle and Andreas Kofler, it set out to sharpen public awareness of Brussels’ competition culture, drawing on ten years of Kristiaan Borret’s mandate and the collective work of the BMA team, alongside Brussels-based stakeholders, architects and urbanists.

Today, after three months without a BMA and amid an ongoing governmental crisis, a role that has been openly questioned in Brussels is now being reaffirmed. Before the exhibition travels on to Luxembourg (LUCA – Luxembourg Center for Architecture), where it will be shown from February to June 2026, the BMA team has chosen to present it here, in Brussels. A timely reminder that, whilst international interest in the BMA role remains strong, it still requires explanation at home.

Ahead of its next stop, the BMA team is bringing Soft Power back to Brussels in a shorter, freer and more spontaneous format: Soft Power Sauvage. We are pleased to highlight the enabling conditions that have fostered a strong architectural culture in Brussels, and that have encouraged a new generation of architects to play an active part in the city’s transformation.

Soft Power Sauvage will be on public display at Brasserie de la Senne from Thursday 29 January until Sunday 1 February 2026.

More than ever, this is the moment to take pride in what makes Brussels so precious and to keep supporting it.
