Multidisciplinary amenity including a sports hall

The brand new Conscience sustainable neighbourhood contract in Evere is off to a flying start. Of all the building projects, it is the multidisciplinary facility planned for the Square de l’Accueil that has the honour of being launched first by the municipality of Evere. The municipality is looking for a design team to come up with a plan for the building, which will bring together community and cultural spaces, as well as a sports hall accessible to all. The Sustainable Neighbourhood Contract has identified a lack of sports and community facilities in this area of Evere, and this project aims to fill the gap. The hall will be used by local schools, in particular by pupils from the Clair-Vivre school located at the square, but also by clubs outside school hours. The design team will therefore have to devise a multi-purpose, inclusive building that can be used flexibly by a diversity of users.

The project also includes landscaping the entire site. The square is located at the intersection of the Chaussée de Haecht and the avenues linking the town hall to the Place de Helmet and, further on, to Schaerbeek station. It is both a gateway to the district and an essential space for local residents. The redevelopment will therefore have to juggle these two contradictory dimensions. To achieve this, the municipality is planning a participatory process involving associations, sports clubs and local residents. The design team will be asked to work with the local authority throughout this process, to ensure that the project is fully integrated into its urban and social context.
