The R. Beauthier sports hall is the only public facility within the perimeter of the Contrat de Quartier Durable (CQD) “Villas de Ganshoren”. This unique position makes it an intensively used space by numerous sports clubs and associations, despite several shortcomings: the building is not very open to the neighbourhood, the different functions it accommodates do not complement each other well, and access to certain areas, such as the stands, is problematic. The hall also hosts the municipal cultural venue, which currently lacks adequate visibility and functionality.
Within the framework of the CQD, the municipality has therefore decided to undertake a transformation and extension of the building in order to provide a clearer, more versatile facility that is better integrated into its urban context. The ambition is to meet the needs of users while supporting community life and strengthening the site’s sporting and cultural vocation.
The building, complemented by an extension located at the rear of the hall towards the sports fields, will notably include a hall for cultural activities, a fully equipped foyer, a neighbourhood room, a gymnastics hall as well as changing rooms and technical facilities. The municipality aims to develop an adaptable and shared project. For example, the cultural hall will need to accommodate events for up to 300 people, while remaining suitable for performances for 150 spectators.
Finally, the design team will have to take into account the significant constraints linked to the CQD conditions, particularly in terms of budget and coordination with related projects (such as the redevelopment of the public spaces around the hall).
