Greening Flagey!

Public Space

Since it was refurbished in 2008, Place Flagey has become a popular meeting spot for Brussels residents. Visitors to the square can have a coffee, go see a concert at Flagey, hop on a bus or a tram, wander around the market or let the children enjoy the fountains.

However, the square remains relatively sparsely covered by vegetation. This fails to respond to current requirements to make public space greener to mitigate against rising temperatures and urban heat islands, manage rain water and flow, and offer shaded areas for different uses and users. To achieve this vision of public space, the municipality of Ixelles is seeking a team to carry out a landscaping study to make Place Flagey and Place Sainte-Croix greener.

The job involves taking stock of the current situation, consulting with the different stakeholders connected to the project, developing a plan for enhancing vegetation cover and landscaping on Place Flagey and Place Sainte-Croix, and initiating a planning permission request.
