JAMAR & MIDI

Redevelopment of the public space

Underneath the short but wide Boulevard Jamar, several STIB lines run towards Midi Station. Everyone has seen that major work is currently taking place underground in preparation for the new Toots Thielemans metro station. While the plans for the underground levels have already been drawn up, this assignment deals with the above-ground reconstruction.

The area between Midi Station and the city centre is going through a profound transformation. The metro plans, the redevelopment of Avenue Stalingrad and also the feasibility study for the quadrilatres are all intertwined. Amid these puzzle pieces, this project forms the link on the city ring between Place Bara on one side and Lemonnier and Stalingrad on the other.

The complete redevelopment of this area should create a public space with metropolitan qualities. The project must be exemplary in terms of sustainability, in order to guarantee the quality of this public space over the long term. Sustainability, universal accessibility and synergy with other ongoing or planned projects around the project area are central objectives.

Bruxelles Mobilité is looking for a multidisciplinary team with solid expertise in the design and realization of public spaces, as well as in mobility. Particular attention will be paid to the participatory process and the consultation of all the players involved in the creation of this project.
