It is high time to revamp the dilapidated footbridge at Beekkant underground train station by replacing it with a new connection. The aim is twofold: firstly, like the existing footbridge, this new link for use by bicycles and pedestrians needs to harmoniously connect the neighbouring districts. On the other hand, it sets out to create an inclusive public space that offers a panoramic view of the railway landscape.
This footbridge represents the connector between the four quadrants that have been defined in the urban scheme of the PAD Gare de l’Ouest, which will take shape in the near future. As a result, the new bridge will be designed to be accessible 24/7, regardless of the opening hours of Beekkant underground station. Integration in the context and especially in the future park is of paramount importance, guaranteeing the same access on both sides, complemented by ramps and lifts to ensure ease of use for a wide range of users, including cyclists, people with reduced mobility and pedestrians.
Beliris is looking for a team of architects and engineers with the expertise needed to meet the technical challenges of this project and integrate them into a functional, high-quality structure.
