CLT TIMBER in Rue de Mérode

daycare and housing

The plot located on Rue de Mérode 97-103 in Saint-Gilles currently presents a gap between a social housing development on one side and a school on the other. Citydev is planning a building with at least six housing units for purchase, as well as a nursery with 24 spaces. The nursery is part of the “Midi” sustainable neighbourhood programme of the municipality of Saint-Gilles. The goal is to offer additional facilities for infants in this neighbourhood that is changing fast.

In addition to the importance of the two functions being well-integrated on this dense site that presents a number of constraints, one of the challenges will be to deliver a “teaching garden” for external users such as the municipality, the neighbouring school and local community organisations. A study of flows of people and access points will therefore need to be carried out. The project aims to deliver a building with a cross-laminated timber (CLT) type structure to allow for rapid construction and limited work site disturbance.

For this service contract, Citydev is seeking a multidisciplinary team with the following skills: architecture, stability, special techniques, energy efficiency, acoustics, health and safety and buildings surveying.
