NEW VISION FOR SCHAERBEEK-FORMATION

Elaboration of an overall vision for the strategic site of Schaerbeek-Formation

The regional strategic zone of Schaerbeek-Formation includes the largest land reserve of the Brussels-Capital Region. This railway site and its surroundings materializes a complex network of economic, logistical and environmental issues.

It is situated along the Senne valley in the North of the Brussels Region, between the canal and the railway line of Schaerbeek station. It is also very well connected to the road infrastructure. These factors make it a privileged site for developing a set of functions linked to multimodal logistics, economic activities carried out by players such as the Port of Brussels and Citydev, as well as to other types of public facilities and infrastructure. In addition, the proximity of the Senne and the initiatives led by Brussels Environment to open it up, as well as the existence of polluted soil deposits and the wasteland character of part of the site bring environmental issues to the fore.

To ensure that these issues are taken into account on the scale of the entire strategic zone, perspective.brussels will coordinate the production of a global vision through a process that closely involves all stakeholders. This vision note for the development of the entire area will be submitted to the government and will serve as a basis for the creation of any necessary planning tool.

To carry out this mission, perspective.brussels is looking for a multidisciplinary team of urban planners and landscape architects with expertise in urban economics and urban logistics, ecosystem services or environmental economics and impact studies.
